Florence is easily a walking city, which makes for days filled with nonstop exploring. One day we booked a walking tour that included a visit the Uffizi Museum, which brought on a whole new appreciation for the renaissance era. But one of my favorite days was trekking up the bell tower at the Duomo. The narrow stairways were packed with people coming up and down the tower (luckily neither of us are claustrophobic) but it was so worth the view at the top. The sweeping view of Florence was like a painting with the city’s rich terra cotta roof tops and rolling mountains in the near distance. I couldn’t take enough of it in.
We normally try to stay off the super beaten paths when it comes to picking where to eat, but after we got down from the bell tower we ate at one of the restaurants that was right in front of the Duomo and shared a couple of pizzas. I had to pinch myself over my view sitting across the table from my new husband in front of the iconic Florentine cathedral.
I loved Florence and can’t wait for the day we get to go back.
